Photoprotection remains an essential health prevention strategy to reduce the deleterious effects of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) and visible light (VL). A recent study reviews methods of photoprotection, with a focus on sunscreen.
It describes that the most appropriate sunscreen formulation for personal use relies on several factors. Active sunscreen ingredients differ in their protective effect over the UVR and VL spectrum. Some dermatologic diseases cause photosensitivity or are aggravated by a particular action spectrum. In these situations, sunscreen guidance can manage the specific concern. Sunscreen does not symbolize a single entity. Suitable personalized sunscreen preference is essential to improve compliance and clinical outcomes. Healthcare providers can encourage informed product selection with awareness of evolving sunscreen formulations and counseling patients on proper use.
